Postdoctoral Research Associate I

 The Miranti Lab is seeking highly motivated candidate for an NIH funded, full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate I position. The successful candidate will support the development of a new prostate-on-chip model geared towards understanding the genetic and epigenetic events associated with normal prostate gland development and prostate cancer progression. The postdoctoral candidate will work closely with both cancer biologists and bioengineers to further develop the prostate-on-chip model, including incorporation of vasculature and bone-on-chip modules. generate. The successful postdoctoral candidate will possess cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, and advanced microscopy skill sets. The position will require the use of cell culture, microfluidics, confocal microscopy, molecular biology tools for shRNA and gene expression, and RNA and ChIP-Seq technologies. In addition, they will possess the drive required to work independently, collaboratively, and publish finding.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead a research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.
  • Innovate new areas of experimental inquiry.
  • Advance technical aspects of experimental approaches and mechanistic understanding of biological problem.
  • Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.
  • Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.
  • Apply for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the PI.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques, maintain primary cell cultures, and use confocal immunofluorescence imaging.
  • Perform routine analysis of RNA and protein expression.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in cancer biology, biochemistry, molecular cellular biology, genetics, or related field by time of hire.
  • Two first authored publications documenting the ability to conduct original research.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Thorough understanding of cancer, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. *Experience with plasmids for shRNA and gene expression techniques. *Experience with cell culture. *Experience with microscopes (fluorescence, confocal). *Experience in bioengineering. *Experience in bioinformatics. *Experience in gene regulation.

The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for a Research Director position located in our Linthicum, Maryland office.  This position is temporarily remote and will have the possibility to telecommute up to 3 days a week.

In General

This position is responsible for direct oversight of the AUA Office of Research programs, new initiatives, and research-related strategic goals and priorities, including those of the Urology Care Foundation (UCF), the official foundation of the AUA. These programs support the extramural urology research funding and education of the Office of Research as well as the research advocacy activities of the AUA. Supervises all staff administering AUA research programs. Acts as primary communication point and advisor to the AUA Research Council as well as associated committees, workgroups, and panels. Represents the AUA to government, medical, research and other organizations on research-related issues and serves as the AUA’s internal staff resource on urology relevant research matters.

The individual in this position will focus on:

Research Funding

  • Ensures compliance of UCF research grant policies and processes with current extramural funding best practices. Includes tracking, evaluation and reported of  funded
  • Collaborates with the UCF in fundraising activities to ensure adequate support is in place for all research grant programs.

Research Education

  • Develops and stewards a robust portfolio of research education programs using co-sponsored symposia, educational workshops, and online research education courses.
  • Maintains and enhances intra-AUA relationships and collaborations with departments directly related to research education programs.

Research Advocacy

  • Serves as AUA research staff liaison with federal and non-federal funding agencies, and special interest patient groups in the area of urology research funding. 
  • Serves as research staff advisor to the AUA Research Advocacy Committee.

Governance and Operations

  • Works with the Research Council and Research Committees to define a comprehensive research agenda with strategic goals and tactical solutions,
  • Supervises Office of Research staff in coordinating the activities of Research Council subcommittees, workgroups, and panels.

To be Successful

Candidates must provide leadership and have effective critical thinking skills.  It is essential that the individual in this role have strong networking, planning, and communication skills;  strong understanding of policies and processes of extramurally-funded biomedical research.

In addition:

  • Master’s Degree in a biomedical research-related discipline; MD or PhD strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ postgraduate experience in biomedical research and/or research administration, preferably in urology-related research
  • Strong knowledge of, and direct experience in, the academic, extramurally-funded landscape of medical research support and processes as a funded investigator and/or research administrator
  • Minimum 5 years’ management experience working with diverse groups of individuals at all levels including organizational governing bodies, doctoral-level professionals, federal officials, and program staff.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience successfully managing, leading, and coaching diverse teams preferred

HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist III to support the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR), located at the Rockledge Office in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CPDR. U.S. Citizenship is required. 

The incumbent provides epidemiological, computer programming, bio-statistical and laboratory procedure support for a specified project in the field of prostate cancer. 

CPDR is a comprehensive research program to study prostate cancer and prostate disease, CPDR was established in 1992 (Public Law 102-172). The program’s mission is fulfilled primarily through its three principal programs: (1) the Clinical Translational Research Center; (2) the Basic Science Research Program, and (3) the Tri-Service Multicenter Prostate Cancer Database to encompass its clinical research work with participating military medical centers. 

Responsibilities: 

1. Evaluates epidemiological studies supporting the research project. 

2. Provides consultation regarding study design and necessary statistical analysis. This includes advising on designing studies, analyzing statistics and epidemiological interpretations of the research. 

3. Initiates, designs, and implements epidemiological studies supporting the research project. 

4. Portfolio management including proposal review and project evaluation. 

5. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. 

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have experience in prostate cancer/disease research. Knowledge and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors; advanced knowledge in computer programming with experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods; knowledge of statistical and mathematical software including SAS, MINITAB, and BMDP; excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be familiar with grant writing and ideally publications (author and/or co-author). 

Minimum Education: Master’s degree required; Doctoral degree preferred. 

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 6-8 years of relevant work experience required. Prostate cancer/disease research experience required. 

Work Environment: Set in an office research environment. 

Background/Security: US Citizenship required. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier I Public Trust and Common Access Card (CAC).

RESEARCH SCIENTIST – UROLOGY 

 

The Department of Urology of the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is recruiting a Research Scientist with research expertise and interest in urologic cancer, particularly bladder and kidney.  The recruitment is at the Assistant Professor level for an individual with demonstrated ability to secure funding that is interested in becoming a member of a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary program spanning urologic malignancies and associated morbidities.  There is particular interest in attracting a recruit that can merge molecular approaches with AI and/or an expertise in bioinformatic skills for understanding cancer etiology, progression and metastasis.
